ARTERIA - Modern Article Creation

2017 - 2019

ARTERIA was a web application that enables suppliers and specialist departments to capture product data much more easily and in a more structured way before an item appears in the online shop. What previously ran via informal emails, inconsistent data sheets, and extensive Excel files is now replaced by an intuitive system: users first describe a product with a minimal data set and then complete it step by step, supported by assortment-specific suggestions. Even complex items consisting of multiple components, variants, and packages can be mapped. For the retailer, the project was an important milestone on the journey from a traditional retailer to a platform provider, since efficient product setup directly by the supplier forms the basis for a broader assortment.

Technologically, ARTERIA was developed as a modern cloud application – with a frontend based on React, Redux, and TypeScript and a backend using Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, and Elasticsearch, operated in the AWS Cloud and secured by automated tests. From the outset, the team worked in a user-centered and iterative way: specialist departments, suppliers, and UI/UX designers were brought in early, ideas for user guidance were tested using, among other things, paper prototypes, and the application was continuously further developed and brought into production along the lines of a Minimum Viable Product.

On the service provider side, the project was driven by a team that was built up over several years and supported in its agile way of working as Scrum Master and Agile Coach – from sprint planning and retrospectives to metrics and close collaboration with the Product Owner and business department. At the same time, this role carried the responsibility for successful collaboration between client and service provider as well as for the reliable delivery of the agreed scope of services. In this way, the ongoing development of a high-performing, self-organized team was combined with overall responsibility for a demanding product and customer engagement.
